J & J did not begin as the business that it is today. Jim Starks became a CPA in 1979 and started consulting with clients at the insurance office his wife and wife’s mother owned. He would then take their paperwork home to finish the client’s taxes. He continued to do this until 2003, when his son, Jason, who was preparing taxes at Courtney’s father’s office, decided he wanted to branch out and start his own office with his dad as a partner.

In 2003 J and J was created. First, advertising was just word of mouth and, Jason, Courtney, and the kids would hand out flyers to get new clients. As the business grew the office building got too small for the number of clients. Jim purchased an old house on 89th street and remodeled the house to create the office that everyone now knows. Now that the kids are grown, and our youngest, Taylor, has married Jacob Ramer, he will be added as a tax preparer. Which will fit in perfectly with the “J names”. Now we are going on almost 20 years, creating the business has been such a journey and we are so glad to be on this journey with all our wonderful clients
